Wife-Unit and I intend to make a best-of mix cd of Christmas songs but wonder if you have any suggestions? While I am a huge Sufjan Stevens fan, some of his Christmas music misses the mark badly. Bob Dylan’s Christmas album is one of the weirdest things of the year. Tori Amos might regret Midwinter Graces, her newly released festive CD. Even the blessed Aimee Mann released a dodgy Christmas album So short of just adding the whole of Weezer’s little Christmas mix to the CD, what should we include?

Blind Boys of Alabama have a superb Christmas album ‘Go Tell it on the Mountain’. If you like it at all you will love it – if you know what I mean.
May not be to your taste but if you’re looking for a bit of jazz to lounge around to The George Shearing Quintet have a great Christmas album, I can’t remember the name off-hand. ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High’ is a highlight.
For choral music The John Rutter Christmas album is marvelous. Check out ‘Jesus Child’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ to lift the spirits.
And then there is Handel’s Messiah. Apparently there are some coundrels who doesn’t listen to it in its entirety leading up to Christmas – it doesn’t even bear thinking about…
Eh, excuse the typographical and grammatical errors in that last sentence.

I had recorded a version of ‘Of it Came Upon the Midnight Clear’ and put it to the tune of the ‘The Sash’ but it was bad
Hi Zoomie. for some reason your thing about the Manhattan declaration is only showing up on my google reader and not on zoomtard.
You said this
“If we do really worship the living God then we don’t need to protect the covenantal relationship he created that we call marriage.”
my question is, isnt God views of things better for everyone? Shouldnt we try to keep as law Gods view of marraige as that is good for society? You couch your arguments in terms of doing good for all and not just the christian, isnt this the aim of keeping marraige as is currently defined?
also Sufjan’s cmon lets boogie to the elf dance is my favourite xmas song.
Shane: we love the Blind Boys album so much we have introduced Go Tell It On The Mountain into our little church’s worship services. My wife is one of those savage beasts who gets bored by Handel. I know, my burden is heavy.
Dave: Low have a Christmas album?! I am there. I don’t honestly know the tune of the Sash. My ability to put my head in the sand is remarkable. (By the way: The Gospels are viable historical literature!
)
TROUSERS: Sufjan has moments of Christmas brilliance but overall I can’t get past the fact that he recorded those albums for family and friends. Love covers a multitude of sins and so on…
The reason the Manhattan Declaration post disappeared is that for the first time in Zoomtard’s history I felt it was TOO mean spirited. So I am re-writing it. Maybe I am getting soft in my old age…
Fair enough. You should know though that your “meaness ” is still out there for all of us who read you on rss feeders.
Step into Christmas by Elton John!
